A leaf’s life may seem insignificant to most, but to the leaf, I’m sure they feel very important. Born in Spring and dead in Fall, their lives aren’t considered to be long. However, some hang on to life until the dreaded Winter.
Each branch holds a family and each family grows and dies together. They don’t let go until they’re all ready.
They consume water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide together. They sleep together. The leaves whisper to the wind so as to speak to their neighbors in different trees while using their branch to speak to friends and family in the same tree. When Fall finally comes the leaves change color and one by one each leaf says its goodbyes before the whispers carry it to the ground.
By Winter the trees’ branches are barren like cracks in the sky. Yet one family won’t let go. They cling to their branch wishing to greet their descendants and stare silently at one friend. They can no longer speak to family or friends, but they whisper in the winds to their friend as they wait until next Spring.
